Anyone affected by IR35?  [18/4/2001 07:59:17]

With the new legislation that Tony and his Cronies have brought in (IR35) which affects the way small consultancies (like my own) operate, has anyone considered the negative impact this might have on the call centre industry? My services tend to be 'sold' on short-term contracts (I consult and develop strategies for call centre technology) and I'm finding that I might be forced overseas with this ridiculous new rule. ANyone else caught with this 'sledgehammer to crack a small nut'?

It's not the world's most far-sighted legislation, anyway :-)  [18/4/2001 12:15:27]

From a personal point of view, I think it's potentially pretty damaging to small businesses in general, and the technology sector in particular. I suspect that the fall-out from ir35 will begin to hit hard next year, as the brain-drain continues. It's only going to make it harder and harder to find the resources to complete technical projects and so on. So, yeah, I imagine it *will* affect the call centre industry in a negative way. John

Just in case anyone is going to be there from this site look out for me - though it pains me to say it, I am the Danny De Vito lookalike who'll probably end up propping up the bar.

If your there, say hello!

Bob
