The War Against Spamming................  [21/6/2001 15:11:29]

Unsolicited e-mail, spam or junk mail - it all adds up to the same thing.

One of our customers said that the estimated cost to internet users is inexcess of 9.5 bn Euro a year.

Do you think that this will hamper the growth of internet trade ?
Will it damage confidence ?
Who does it really benefit ?
Do the receivers of the information actually read the information when it comes through?

What is the alternative in this digital age ?

The Telecommunications Act 1999 deals with unsolicited telephone and fax calls in the UK. And people can remove themselves from being telephoned by registering at www.tpsonline.org.uk or from being faxed at wwwfpsonline.org.uk.

What about e-mails ?
What are your thoughts on the matter...?

junk mail  [21/6/2001 20:26:18]

One mans junk is youknow
E-Marketing is the answer its clean its opt-in and its easy to get ride of.
If we count all the time all of us spend shopping and call it unproductive or counter productive it would be a farce.
People who know where to find what we need at the best price are paid big bucks and e-mail offers some great saving.
If we can create sorting for e-mail so that the marketing can be more targeted you will stop a lot of your unwanted mail because the spammers are not lookingfor people who do not want their products they are looking for people who do.JM

I think Jesse is right.

We only refer to something as spam when it doesn't meet our needs.

Of course companies want results rather than failures.

There is however a case for something to stop those who simply 'dump' - often behalf of someone else.

Maybe what we could do is take the time to talk to the people commissioning the dumpers to explain to them know just how ineffective their spend is and just what a lousey impression is left with those not interested about their company due to the ineffective targeting involved. Maybe setting up a list
