Network Scrolling Messaging  [28/7/2004 15:01:49]

I'm hoping that somebody might be able to point me in the right direction. I am trying to find out how internally created messages can be sent via a scrolling ticker-tape method straight onto a users desktop screen (but not within a browser). This is similar to Reuters news feed, but is for internal company news only (and created by Managers/Supervisors, Dept. Heads etc). Messages need to be scheduled in advance and sent to groups/Departments, teams etc. The requirement is to have some interaction with http links on the scrolling messages, Which can connect the user to say an Intranet page...or a shared document. A client of mine requires this for his own multi-site company (they have 450 users across several sites). He read something in a magazine but cannot remember which magazine. Any help anyone can give would be greatly appreciated.

IP Multicasting  [28/7/2004 15:13:54]

John,

You'll normally find this as an extra withing packages.

As far as I know it features in various versions of Agentview,
the Kronos Timekeeper package and IEX Total view.

Although in these cases it's tied to the functionality of
the package in question.

Try a web search unde IP Multicasting on a LAN / WLAN
and see what you get.

Alternatively give Dacon a ring (Hemel Hempstead Herts)
they might be able to suggest something.

Alternatively Penguin Products might have something to help.

Allot of call centre platforms these days have desktop scrolling wallboards, they act in the exact way you have described. The messages can be created by call centre managers or team leaders and scrolled across a section of there screen.I'm unsure about linking them to intranet sites but with a little integration work it maybe possible.

So this is certainly available with Avaya platforms and is probably a simple upgrade with some integration work, however if you don't have Avaya then you will need to call your Teleco account manager and ask about desk top wallboards.
