Firstly, I agree entirely that it is wrong to abuse anyone due to their nationality, culture, background, etc. It is very unfortunate that people feel unable to express their disatisfaction without resorting to this. The discourtesy comitted by cold callers is nothing to do with these factors.
However I would make a plea to all cold callers...
Please stop being so damn rude to the public!
1) I recieved a cold call at 3pm on Sunday afternoon - I consider this to be rude in the extreme.
2) I have hung up on callers making it very clear I did not want to be called, only to be called back! - I consider this rude beyond belief.
3) I constantly recieve calls from "market research" compaines that turn out (suprise suprise) to be sales calls - I consider this rude and dishonest.
4) I recieved an autodialler call claiming to be a national prize finding agency - just call this number - and I believe in more enlightened cultures this is not only extremely rude (at least have the decency to get a human to call me) but also illegal!
I am always polite but firm in refusing these calls however in 3 of the 4 examples this does not work:
1 - no problem..."it's sunday and I do not wish to be disturbed"
2 - obviously the polite tone in some way lead the caller to believe I was only fooling myself by turning them away!
3 - callers insist on maintaining the lie "but it's not sales" before asking the market research question "if i offered you windows @ £X would you like to see a sales rep?"
4 - Who do you tell to bugger off?!?
The obvious solution for me is to go with TPS, but as a member of the industry I hesitate to add to its demise... over to the callers
actually i found out the autodialler will not hang up if the message is interrupted, but goes back to the start (even if you put the phone down)... i spent an entertaining hour picking the phone up & putting it down again every minute or 2... wonder how long an hour long call cost them? |
