Please Do Not Be Rude To us ....  [27/8/2004 23:24:20]

HI all,

This is just a request to all the persons who abuse and be very rude to any cold caller . I know it is sometimes very annoying , when a person you do not know calls you and disturbs you to sell you something or update you about something which might not be your priority at that point of time . However, Instead of abusing the caller and his backgroud (also sometimes his Nationality ) why not politely tell him the reason for you disinterest !!

seeing both sides  [31/8/2004 10:27:13]

Kunal

Firstly, I agree entirely that it is wrong to abuse anyone due to their nationality, culture, background, etc. It is very unfortunate that people feel unable to express their disatisfaction without resorting to this. The discourtesy comitted by cold callers is nothing to do with these factors.

However I would make a plea to all cold callers...

Please stop being so damn rude to the public!

1) I recieved a cold call at 3pm on Sunday afternoon - I consider this to be rude in the extreme.

2) I have hung up on callers making it very clear I did not want to be called, only to be called back! - I consider this rude beyond belief.

3) I constantly recieve calls from "market research" compaines that turn out (suprise suprise) to be sales calls - I consider this rude and dishonest.

4) I recieved an autodialler call claiming to be a national prize finding agency - just call this number - and I believe in more enlightened cultures this is not only extremely rude (at least have the decency to get a human to call me) but also illegal!

I am always polite but firm in refusing these calls however in 3 of the 4 examples this does not work:

1 - no problem..."it's sunday and I do not wish to be disturbed"
2 - obviously the polite tone in some way lead the caller to believe I was only fooling myself by turning them away!
3 - callers insist on maintaining the lie "but it's not sales" before asking the market research question "if i offered you windows @ £X would you like to see a sales rep?"
4 - Who do you tell to bugger off?!?

The obvious solution for me is to go with TPS, but as a member of the industry I hesitate to add to its demise... over to the callers

actually i found out the autodialler will not hang up if the message is interrupted, but goes back to the start (even if you put the phone down)... i spent an entertaining hour picking the phone up & putting it down again every minute or 2... wonder how long an hour long call cost them?

We Can Do It Together ..  [31/8/2004 23:13:24]

Thanks for your reply ,

I do agree some callers are very rude to the public (But Not All).

Now this is in reply to your plea to all cold callers...

Please stop being so damn rude to the public!

1) I recieved a cold call at 3pm on Sunday afternoon - I consider this to be rude in the extreme.
-> callers are made to work even on holidays and they have the same pressure of achieving the respective targets. If they stop dialing they will loose their job(s).

2) I have hung up on callers making it very clear I did not want to be called, only to be called back! - I consider this rude beyond belief.
-> sometimes the automated dialer churns the lead list and throws the call back or some callers do not bother to dispose the calls correctly.

3) I constantly recieve calls from "market research" compaines that turn out (suprise suprise) to be sales calls - I consider this rude and dishonest.
->as far as I am concerned I make it very clear to the person answering the phone that it is a "SALES CALL"

4) I recieved an autodialler call claiming to be a national prize finding agency - just call this number - and I believe in more enlightened cultures this is not only extremely rude (at least have the decency to get a human to call me) but also illegal!
-> I have no idea about the auto dialer call

I am always polite but firm in refusing these calls however in 3 of the 4 examples this does not work:

This is how it will normally get disposed (atleast I will )...

1 - no problem..."it's sunday and I do not wish to be disturbed"
->disposed as CALL BACK for Monday....

2 - obviously the polite tone in some way lead the caller to believe I was only fooling myself by turning them away!
->disposed as NOT INTERESTED

3 - callers insist on maintaining the lie "but it's not sales" before asking the market research question "if i offered you windows @ £X would you like to see a sales rep?"
->customer replied yes ---"LEAD" , if no - "NOT INTERESTED"

4 - Who do you tell to bugger off?!?
->disposed as "NOT INTERESTED"

As a cold caller I have never been rude to any person and I am very polite to the person on the other side of the phone (be it a small kid or a senior person).I understand and respect the person who do not wish to get bothered with tele marketing calls. I analyse the tone in which things are told to me and accordingly dispose the call.

Plese do not be rude  [1/9/2004 10:34:58]

In my experience, then you are in a minority.
I often receive calls, and despite being told that I am not interested in the product, the caller continues with the sales pitch. I do not have a problem with the calls - it is a fact of life, but if I say that I am not interested, then I do not expect the call to continue.
I am sure that we all have horror stories of persistant call centre agents.

So surely it is upto the agents (and centre managers) to behave more responsibly - like yourself.

As for TPS - I am registered, though I still get calls. But is it not in the interest of the industry to promote such a list - I would never buy from such a cold call, and therefore every call to me is a wasted call.

Richard

In the UK guidelines are followed regarding times for unsolicited calling. Rough guide:

Monday - Friday no calls before 9am or after 9pm
Saturday no calls before 10am or after 4pm
Sundays & Holidays no calls

Your employers should respect the conventions of the countries they ask you to call. If you call outside these times people will simply be angry (with justification) and are very unlikely to respond in the positive.
