Work too dumb for workforce?  [20/3/2005 14:55:02]

A survey commissioned by Intervoice who interviewed 92 senior managers said that 61 per cent agreed that agent work is too mundane for an educated workforce and 56 per cent believed that agent work doesn't provide a fulfilling career.

That being the case and given the degree educated workforce we have in the UK and India do we agree? Next, whether we agree or not, what are we going to do about it?

From my experience here most staff moved onto management from the 'floor'. Was it just the money or did the mundanity have something to do with it?

PS. (Have donkey for hire with OU Doctorate in Physics)

Work too dumb for workforce?   [21/3/2005 10:35:24]

The problem appears to be an economic one of supply and demand.

Too many people with degrees and not enough degree type jobs, not suprising given the move towards a service economy.

What really worries me however, is the ticking timebomb of sub standard educated people currently coming out of school who can't spell or do math. If this continues to snowball what future for the UK Plc.

Let them improve the work  [21/3/2005 14:28:28]

What if management gave the workforce all or some of the responsibility for identifiying improvements to the work? They would still have the boring work to do but they would have some intellectual stimulation of trying to make it better, faster and more efficient.

Would that be more interesting?
