Fresh MBA in a call centre - Is it worth it ? advice sought  [5/2/2002 12:43:33]

Dear All

Hi

I am currently pursuing my MBA from a top 5 B-School in India.
I completed my graduation in Electronics and telecommunication engg. in the year 2000.

Our recruitment day is drawing near.

I am looking for advice from the members of this forum regarding my career choice.

I want to get into this industry ad sincerely believe that this is going to be the next Y2K opportunity for India wherein India will emerge as a big successful player in this industry notwithstading the failure of Medical Transcription business in India. I want to enter this industry as it is a fledgling one and hold great promise. My belief that i would be able to contribute significantly in this sector and shape it has made me to look for a career it his industry.

However, there are several batcmates of mine who is suggesting me otherwise, reason being that a management graduate like me from a leading B-school should not get into this line and there is not much work to do for a Management graduate.

I am aware that several successful people like Vikram Talwar have made a foray into this segment. But they are at the top positons in this business ad thus actually perform the operations of managing the business.

Could someone please tell me whether there exists quality jobs for a MBA in a call centre business.

thanx
Sourabh

Career In Call Centers  [5/2/2002 15:33:50]

Mr. Jain,

It is interesting to know that you want to enter this industry. My suggestions:

1. If you are looking for great operational experience this is the best chance.
2. Since there are very few people who are capable of managing call centers, it is advisable that you can try.
3. A company like GE,Bharti group, Reliance, Spectramind, convergys , cedar, E-serve, e-funds, sitel are some of the top performers in India. If you join them then you have a great career.
4. The day B-school graduates enter this industry, the industry gets the fillip.
5. Service industry may not be B-school graduates choice but someone has to start.

Understand the operational complexities and guide one international center to achieve global recognition through excellent service and innovation and probably you will be the trend setter.
