Answerphones mobile vs home  [11/11/2008 09:52:41]

Hello

Would anyone happen to know what % of landlines have a voicemail/answerphone facility and the same for mobiles.

Basically if we have a strategy for leaving a message on one or the other but not both then which do you feel would be the most successful?

Any thoughts

Thanks

Voicemail on mobile vs home  [28/11/2008 15:50:12]

While I have no numbers to back anything up I can say with a strong level of confidence that in North America cellphones would be much more likely to have voicemail than a landline.

Not by much....but they would.

I'd guess this answer is very dependent on geography. I don't have figures either, but in the UK many consumers have to pay for voicemail retrieval for mobiles.
Many organisations now use SMS as an alternative to voicemail as it has a number of benefits:
- The message can be viewed as soon as the user turns on their phone
- They won't be charged (unless you want them to) to receive the message, therefore ahowing that you value their custom
- Return call rates for SMS are generally higher and more predictable than voicemail
- You can get data on when / if the message was delivered to the phone

There are a decent number of providers who offer solutions from the very simple, web based interfaces to complex, integrated automated systems
